About Lawkeepers
Dr. Jonas MacNair works for Florence Projects, a front company for U.S. government projects deemed "unethical." His appointed mission is to create and train "super soldiers." MacNair crafts these assassins from childhood and sets up "schools" to educate them in secret. Using cybernetic implants, genetic alteration and brainwashing techniques, MacNair's students exceed all expectation. MacNair introduces religious themes to maintain control over the children, further encouraging the students to think of him as God.
MacNair's creation of Heaven is set into chaos during a Rebellion in the spring of 2000. Those loyal to him fight those who would defy him. In the end, MacNair is killed and Redplains destroyed. In the process, explosions send his gene-altering chemicals into the atmosphere and the cloud sweeps up the eastern U.S. coastline, changing and/or killing hundreds in its wake -- an event to be dubbed the "Gas Baby phenomenon."
The ensuing "Gen-Alt Revolution" inspires the U.S. administration to create the Center of Gen-Alt Affairs (CGA) with the Lawkeepers as its enforcement agency. The Lawkeepers are made up of survivors from Redplains as well as some newly-formed "Gas Babies." These are their stories.
